Wooden hay rack Alpe
A sturdy wooden hay grate in which you can store fresh hay for your guinea pig or rabbit every day. The hay rack can be locked from above. The hay rack is made of untreated natural wood. A big advantage of this hay rack is that it is low on the ground, so guinea pigs can reach it too. The top of the rack can easily be used as a viewing platform, especially rabbits like that!

This hay rack is suitable as a simple hay rack.
A suitable frame
Vertical bars: A good hay rack should be designed in such a way that the animals can put their jaws between the bars, but this usually only works particularly well with vertical bars (since most animal noses are not that wide, but they are high/long ). However, the animals must not be able to put their heads through them, otherwise they could get caught between the supports. If you find that your pet's head can go through the bars, remove the rack from the pen and choose a rack with a smaller clearance.
How big the distances should be depends on the animal species, approximately the following distances are common for the following animal species:
Degus: 2.5 to 3 cm²
Chinchillas about 2.5 - 3 cm²
Guinea pig: about 3 cm
Dwarf rabbit: about 3 - 3.5 cm
Medium-sized rabbits up to approx. 4 cm
Large rabbits: up to approx. 4.5 cm
